Bird Identification Courses at
Bawdsey Hall are the perfect opportunity for beginners to those with greater
skills to develop their confidence and enhance their birdwatching skills. The
course covers a range of species from garden birds to waterfowl and waders, as
well as providing a unique opportunity to discover why the Suffolk Coast is one
of the UK’s prime wildlife areas. Based in Suffolk your tutor is Steve
Piotrowski, he is a general naturalist and very experienced birder. He facilitates
bird-related courses and has worked with Field Studies Council and BTO. He has
lead Bird ID courses for many years and is also a successful trainer.

Birdwatching is a hugely
rewarding; many people have found enjoyment from our gardens and birds during
our lockdown period this 2020. By attending a Bird ID course, you can bring
further enjoyment to a walk in the countryside. Bawdsey Hall has a fantastic
location and is situated on the Suffolk Coast. Being able to identify the birds
that you see and hear about you greatly increases your connection with nature
and enables you to give something back to nature. Once you can identify birds you
can even help with conservation work and join in with local and national
surveys taking place. At Bawdsey Hall we also have a range of conservation
projects, one of these is Bird ID and ringing which is done weekly. During the
course (weather permitted) our resident bird ringers who have been monitoring
the bird migration at Bawdsey Hall for many years, will be on hand to show you
ringing demonstrations. This will enable you to get up and close to some birds.
Seeing birds in the hand under the guidance of expert trainers is an excellent
way of understanding the nuances of bird identification and will reinforce the
observations you can make through binoculars.
